Greyhounds Fall to Drew in Landmark Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's basketball squad fell to visiting Drew University, 81-67, in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening in Johnston Hall. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds netted the first two points of the contest on a lay-up from senior guard Mark Howell, and the Hounds were up 8-3 after a lay-up by sophomore forward Marquis Ratcliff at the 17:50 mark. After the Rangers knotted the score at 8-8, the Blue & Grey moved back ahead by four points at 12-8 on a jumper from senior guard Alex Dietz. Moravian had a 15-11 edge when Dietz drained a three-pointer before five straight points by Drew put the Rangers on top by a point for the first time in the half with just over 12 minutes until halftime
  • The Hounds retook the lead on a jumper from junior forward Gary Francis which started a back-and-forth between the squads. Moravian held a 23-21 advantage after a jumper by freshman guard Taylor Perlmutter with 8:56 on the clock; however, the Rangers scored the next ten points to take the lead for good. The Blue & Grey closed within two points, 31-29, on a three-pointer from junior guard/forward Michael Leonardo. Drew countered with a 14-4 run to end the half and head to the locker room with a 45-33 advantage
  • The Rangers kept the edge in double digits for the entire second half, leading by as many as 22 points

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had three players in double figures led by Francis, who netted a game-high 20 points to go with three rebounds and a pair of blocked shots
  • Ratcliff contributed 14 points, nine boards and a pair of steals while Howell connected for a career high 12 points to go along with five assists
  • Dietz and sophomore forward Liam Cummiskey each had five points with Dietz adding four rebounds and Cummiskey grabbing six boards
  • Freshman guard/forward Riley Flood registered four points while Leonardo had three points to go with a team-high 11 rebounds and three assists
  • Perlmutter and freshman guard George Cutler both had two points with Perlmutter dishing out two assists
  • The Hounds shot 30-for-67 from the field, 3-for-18 on three-pointers and 4-for-9 at the foul line, and the Blue & Grey had a 38-35 edge on the boards
