Hounds Top Scranton with Balanced Scoring Attack

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's basketball squad used a balanced scoring attack to top visiting The University of Scranton, 71-58, in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening in Johnston Hall. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds hit the first shot of the game as senior guard Mark Howell drained a three-pointer. The Royals scored the next five points before a three-pointer from sophomore forward Liam Cummiskey put the Hounds back up 6-5. The squads traded the lead until senior guard Filippo Baldo knotted the score at 10-10 with 13:27 left in the opening half
  • Scranton then went on a 10-2 run to build a 20-12 advantage with 8:29 until the intermission. Moravian countered with a 20-5 run to move back in front, 32-25, on a lay-up from junior guard/forward Michael Leonardo with 2:51 on the first half clock. The Royals would cut the score to a one-point game at 34-33 Moravian at halftime
  • Scranton opened the second half with a bucket to retake the lead, and the Royals had a 43-40 edge with 14:12 to go. Baldo knotted the score with a three-pointers just nine seconds later, and the Blue & Grey took the lead for good at the 12:49 mark when Leonardo sank a three-pointer
  • The Hounds took a double-digit lead, 57-47, on a three-pointer from Cummiskey, and the Greyhounds led by as many as 15 points, 69-54, when sophomore forward Marquis Ratcliff hit a free throw with 2:51 remaining

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had four players in double figures with Ratcliff tossing in a game-high 20 points to go with seven rebounds, four blocked shots and three assists
  • Leonardo contributed 15 points, four boards, three assists and a pair of steals while freshman guard Taylor Perlmutter had the first double-double of his career with 12 points and a career-best 12 rebounds to go with five assists and three steals
  • Baldo added 10 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists while Cummiskey recorded six points
  • Howell and senior guard Alex Dietz both had three points with Dietz adding four assists and three rebounds while Howell had a pair of assists and two boards
  • Senior forward Mike DiPietro added two points while junior forward Gary Francis grabbed three boards
  • The Hounds shot 27-of-51 from the field, 10-for-20 beyond the three-point line and 7-for 10 at the foul line
  • The Blue & Grey finished the night with a 36-26 advantage on the glass
