Moravian Drops Landmark Conference Contest at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's basketball squad dropped a 72-57 decision in Landmark Conference action at Wilkes University Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored the opening points of the contest on a lay-up from sophomore forward Marquis Ratcliff, and the Blue & Grey had a 7-3 advantage after a three-pointer from senior guard Alex Dietz at the 16:07 mark. The Colonels rallied back to take a 14-8 edge seven minutes into the game before the Hounds countered with a 10-2 run to move back ahead 18-16 on a jumper by junior forward Gary Francis with nine and a half minutes until halftime
  • The squads traced the lead five times with Moravian leading by as many as three points at 26-23 after a three-pointer by junior guard/forward Michael Leonardo at the 5:27 mark. Wilkes scored the next 11 points to take the lead for good, and the Colonels headed to the locker room with a 36-30 advantage
  • Wilkes quickly pushed its lead into double digits to begin the second half. The closest the Hounds would get was six points at 41-35 on a three-pointer by senior guard Mark Howell with 16:25 still to play. The Colonels would lead by as many as 18 points late in the contest

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian was led by Ratcliff, who had his tenth double-double of the season and 20th of his career with 18 points and ten rebounds. Ratcliff now has 504 points this season, the seventh 500-plus point season in program history
  • Dietz finished with nine points while Leonardo contributed eight points, four boards and three assists
  • Francis tossed in six points while freshman guard Taylor Perlmutter added five points, two assists and a pair of steals
  • Freshman guard Riley Flood netted four points while Howell and sophomore forward Liam Cummiskey both had three points
  • Senior guard Filippo Baldo recorded three rebounds and a point
  • The Greyhounds shot 21-for-56 from the field, 8-for-26 on three-pointers and 7-for-17 at the foul line
