James Scores 100th Point for Moravian but Hounds Suffer Non-Conference Loss to DeSales

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse squad allowed six goals in the second quarter and trailed 9-4 at the intermission in a 15-11 loss to DeSales University in non-conference action Wednesday evening under the lights on John Makuvek Field. 

How It Happened

  • The Bulldogs scored the opening two goals of the contest before senior midfielder Zach Bergeron got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard with 5:51 left in the period. Freshman midfielder Aaron Judge knotted the score at 2-2 with just under a minute left in the first quarter; however, DeSales scored again with 23 seconds left to hold a 3-2 edge after 15 minutes of action
  • The Bulldogs started the second period with a two-minute man-up advantage, and DeSales took advantage with four man-up goals in the first 1:55 of the quarter to push the lead to 7-2. Senior attack Connor James netted a goal a minute later to stop the Bulldogs run, then James added a man-up goal at the 9:22 mark to make it a 7-4 contest. DeSales connected on another man-up goal and scored once more to lead 9-4 heading into halftime
  • Moravian scored the first goal of the second half, just 49 seconds into the third quarter as sophomore attack Trevor Dzama knocked in a pass from sophomore attack Brennan Fluehr. After the Bulldogs scored, James netted his third goal of the night off a pass from Dzama, and the goal gave James 100 career points, the ninth player in the program history to reach the milestone. DeSales followed with three more goals before Dzama netted the final goal of the period with a behind-the-head shot inside the left post as the Hounds trailed 14-7 after 45 minutes of play
  • Moravian would outscore the Bulldogs, 4-2, over the final 15 minutes with DeSales scoring the first goal of the period. James contributed a man-down goal, and then the Hounds netted three goals in the final 2:42 with James, Bergeron and Fluehr each finding the net

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had five goal scorers with James netting a team-high five goals as he improved his career totals to 83 goals and 102 points. Dzama contributed two goals and three assists while Bergeron netted a pair of goals and both players scooped up two ground balls. Fluehr had a goal and an assist while Judge added one goal
  • Senior attack Griffin LeBlond and senior midfielder Kevin Berlin both had one assist for the Greyhounds
  • Freshman goalie Thomas Lee registered seven saves to go with a pair of ground balls
  • Graduate student defender Jimmy Schicke paced the Blue and Grey with six ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while sophomore defender Jacob Stetson added four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior midfielder Nick Nolder and freshman midfielder Aden Moskovitz each scooped up three ground balls while senior midfielder Ben Walek added four ground balls and was 9-for-24 on face-offs
