Moravian Ends 2022 with Loss to Catholic on Makuvek Field

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse team saw its 2022 season end in a 21-12 loss to visiting The Catholic University of America in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Cardinals netted the first two goals of the match before sophomore attack Trevor Dzama put the Greyhounds on the scoreboard. Catholic answered with five straight goals before sophomore attack Joey Furino hit the net for the Blue and Grey. The Cardinals added one more marker in the final seconds of the period to lead 8-2 after 15 minutes of action
  • Senior attack Kevin Berlin opened the second quarter with a goal just 46 seconds into action for Moravian; however, Catholic netted another five goals to stretch its advantage to 13-3. Senior midfielder Zach Bergeron ended the run for Moravian, but the Cardinals scored twice more to hold a 15-4 edge at the intermission
  • The Greyhounds scored four of the eight goals put in the net in the third quarter with Dzama scoring twice and senior attack Griffin LeBlond and freshman midfielder Aaron Judge also finding the goal
  • Moravian netted four more goals in the fourth quarter with Bergeron scoring twice including one man-up and both Dzama and LeBlond adding to their tallies

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six different players score a goal with Dzama netting a team-high four goals to go with a pair of assists. Bergeron contributed three goals, an assist and a pair of ground balls while LeBlond added two goals and an assist
  • Furino, Berlin and Judge all scored once with Berlin scooping up two ground balls while senior attack Nick Nolder dished out two assists and senior attack Connor James had an assist
  • Graduate student defender Jimmy Schicke led the squad with nine ground balls and three caused turnovers to finish out his six-year career with 278 ground balls, second in school history. Sophomore defender Matt Baer added five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while senior defender Nathan Hannis had two ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • Freshman goalie Thomas Lee made 19 saves in the match
  • Senior Ben Walek went 15-for-32 on face-offs with five ground balls while freshman Gannon Mesko was 1-for-4 on face-offs
