BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse team scored the opening goal but would fall to The University of Scranton, 18-8, in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Saturday.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds took an early 1-0 lead when graduate student attack Connor James netted the first goal of the contest 1:51 into play. However, the Royals scored three straight goals to hold a 3-1 edge after 15 minutes of action
- Junior attack Trevor Dzama began the second quarter with a goal for the Hounds while Scranton scored to reestablish its two-goal lead. Sophomore attack Dan Kelly cut the match one goal again for the Blue & Grey when he scored at the 6:40 mark. The Royals tallied a goal 28 seconds later and would take that 5-3 advantage into the intermission
- Scranton scored twice to begin the second half, and Moravian sophomore midfielder Aaron Judge countered with two goals in a span of 34 seconds to make it a two-goal match again at 7-5. The Royals ran off five consecutive goals before freshman attack Vincent Devito netted the final goal of the third quarter as Scranton led 12-6 after 45 minutes of play
- The Royals tacked on six more goals in the fourth quarter while the Blue & Grey saw Dzama and Judge tally goals in the final period of play
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had six different players score a point with Judge netting a hat trick to go with three goals to go with three ground balls
- Dzama contributed two goals and three ground balls while James, Devito and Kelly all had a goal with James scooping up a pair of ground balls
- Sophomore midfielder Aden Moskovitz recorded an assist with two ground balls while freshman defender James Panico had three ground balls and three caused turnovers
- Sophomore goalie Thomas Lee posted nine saves with a pair of ground balls
- Sophomore midfielder Gannon Mesko was 14-for-28 on face-offs with three ground balls while senior defender Shane Cassel and senior midfielder Jack Bakey both scooped up three ground balls
- The Hounds were 15-for-19 on clearing attempts
