Moravian Uses First Quarter Scoring Run To Top Mount Saint Vincent

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse squad scored five goals in the final 6:39 of the first quarter to take a lead on the way to a 20-4 victory over the visiting University of Mount Saint Vincent in non-conference action on John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The Dolphins netted the first goal of the match before senior attack Brennan Fluehr got the Hounds on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal with 6:39 on the clock. Sophomore attack Vincent Devito put the Blue & Grey in the lead for good with a pair of goals before junior midfielder Aaron Judge found the net. Mount Saint Vincent cut the Moravian edge to 4-2; however, Judge netted another goal with just six seconds left in the first quarter to put the Greyhounds up 5-2 after 15 minutes of action
  • Graduate student attack Connor James scored a little over a minute into the second quarter to push the advantage to 6-2 as Moravian scored five consecutive goals to start the period. Sophomore attack Ryan Kokoszka added a goal before Devito netted his third marker with the Hounds down a man. Junior midfielder Dan Kelly made it 9-2 before Devito scored again. The Dolphins put a ball in the net while Kelly netted another goal to send the squads to the intermission with Moravian leading 11-3
  • The Greyhounds scored all six goals put in the cage in the third quarter. Judge netted a goal with a man advantage while senior midfielder Joey Furino scored. Devito, Kelly and Judge each added a tally while freshman attack Nick Coffaro had the last goal of the period as the Blue & Grey led 17-3 after 45 minutes of play
  • Mount Saint Vincent stopped the Moravian run with a goal to begin the fourth quarter; however, the Hounds finished the contest with goals from Coffaro, Fluehr and sophomore midfielder RJ Toogood

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 11 players pick up a point in the match with Devito netting five goals to go with three ground balls
  • Judge finished with four goals, two assists and four ground balls while Kelly recorded a hat trick to go with an assist and a pair of ground balls
  • Fluehr posted two goals, an assist and two ground balls while Coffaro netted a pair of goals to go with two ground balls
  • Kokoszka finished with a goal, an assist and three ground balls while Toogood, Furino and James all netted one goal with Toogood scooping up three ground balls
  • Senior attack Trevor Dzama dished out a pair of assists while junior midfielder Aden Moskovitz had an assist
  • Senior Gannon Mesko was 9-for-15 on face-offs with a pair of ground balls while junior defender Austin Hittle was 2-for-2 on face-offs to go with three ground balls
  • Senior long stick midfielder Matt Baer and junior defender Jason Levy both had four ground balls and two caused turnovers while sophomore defender Mike Sickler added two ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • The Hounds used four goalies in the match with junior Thomas Lee making four saves and adding three ground balls in 35 minutes of action. Junior Sean Boyer made one save in 16 minutes of play while senior Avery Napolitano saw four minutes of action. Freshman Nick Crames had one save in his collegiate debut over the final five minutes
  • The Hounds had a 61-26 advantage in shots, a 47-27 edge in ground balls and went 25-for-25 on clearing attempts
