Hounds Fall at Catholic in Landmark Conference Tournament First Round

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The fifth seeded Moravian University men's lacrosse team fell to host and fourth seed The Catholic University of America, 13-5, in a Landmark Conference Tournament First Round match Tuesday.

How It Happened

  • The Cardinals scored the first two goals of the match. The Greyhounds got onto the scoreboard with a man-up goal from freshman attack Nick Coffaro with 3:32 left in the first quarter to make it 2-1 after 15 minutes of action
  • The Hounds knotted the score at 2-2 just 1:40 into the second quarter as senior attack Trevor Dzama found the net. Catholic countered with two goals to retake its two-goal advantage. Moravian scored the next goal when junior midfielder Aaron Judge hit the cage with 6:27 left in the first half. The Cardinals answered with three straight goals to take a 7-3 edge into the intermission
  • Catholic opened up the second half with a pair of goals before sophomore attack Ryan Kokoszka scored for the Hounds. The Cardinals added one more tally to hold a 10-4 advantage after 45 minutes of play
  • Graduate student attack Connor James netted a goal to start the scoring in the fourth quarter while Catholic scored the final three goals of the match

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had seven players record a point with James netting a goal and adding two assists to finish his career with a school record 148 goals and third all-time with 187 career points
  • Dzama recorded a goal to go with three ground balls while Coffaro had a goal and a pair of ground balls
  • Judge and Kokoszka both had one goal while senior attack Brennan Fluehr and junior midfielder Steven Salica each added one assist
  • Junior midfielder Kyle Weiss scooped up four ground balls and added three caused turnovers while junior defender Jason Levy had four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Junior defender Austin Hittle added three ground balls while junior face-off specialist Gannon Mesko had three face-off wins, two ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • Freshman goalie Liam Kelly made 13 saves
