Moravian Tops Gwynedd-Mercy, 8-1, in 2012 Home Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team opened its 2012 home season with an 8-1 non-conference victory over Gwynedd-Mercy College Friday at Hoffman Courts to remain undefeated on the season at 3-0.

The Greyhounds had a 3-0 lead after the doubles action with seniors Kevin Holze and Doug Morrow winning at first doubles, 8-4. Senior Drew Shreter and freshman Lewis Cooper posted an 8-0 victory at second doubles while junior Brad Kutcha and senior David Chan had an 8-4 win at third doubles.

Moravian the won five of the six singles matches for the win. Holze had a 6-1, 6-2 win at first singles to move into a tie for fourth in school history with his 43rd career win while Morrow won at second singles, 6-1, 4-0 (retired). Shreter posted a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) win at third singles for his 40th career win, the sixth player in school history with 40 career singles victories.

Cooper remained undefeated in singles action in his debut season with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth singles while Kutcha earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fifth singles. Chan forced a third set in his sixth singles match before falling 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).

The Greyhounds will return to action on Wednesday, March 21st when they host Drew University in their 2012 Landmark Conference opener at Hoffman Courts beginning at 3:30 p.m.
