Men's Cross Country Selected as Runner-Up in 2011 Landmark Conference Preseason Poll

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College men's cross country team has been selected as the runner-up in the 2011 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.

Defending champion Susquehanna University was selected first in the poll with 82 points while the Greyhounds earned 67 points. The University of Scranton and Juniata College tied for third with 61 points while Goucher College was fifth with 42 points. Rounding out the poll are The United States Merchant Marine Academy in sixth place with 35 points, Drew University with 21 points and The Catholic University of America in eighth place with 17 points.

Moravian looks to challenge for the Landmark Conference Championship with the return a majority of its top runners including five letterwinners on the men's squad with All-Conference runners senior Matthew Lutcza (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley HS) and junior Donnie Noble (Souderton, Pa./Souderton HS) back. Lutcza, pictured at right, was the 2010 Landmark Conference Runner of the Year after winning the individual title last fall, and he also earned All-NCAA Division III Mideast Region honors a year ago and competed at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Assistant distance coach David Cohen and a new director of cross country and track & field look to build their young team to be a top competitor in the Landmark Conference.

The Greyhounds begin their 2011 season on Friday, September 2nd at the Lehigh University Invitational at 5:30 p.m. The 2011 Landmark Conference championship meet will be held on Saturday, October 29th hosted by Moravian at Lehigh's Goodman Campus.
