Hounds Split at F&M as Marcie Silberman Sets Moravian & Landmark Conference Season Home Run Record

LANCASTER, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Franklin & Marshall College, winning the opening game 11-1 in five innings and falling 2-1 in the second contest Thursday. 

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Hounds jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Junior shortstop Holly Walter and junior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys were both hit by a pitch before sophomore catcher Marcie Silberman launched a three-run homer to left field, her school and Landmark Conference record 13th home run of the season. Junior left fielder Sage Snyder walked before senior designated player Emily Silberman  reached on an error. Freshman center fielder Shayla Morgan came on to pinch run and stole second base. Senior second baseman Ajala Elmore connected on a two-RBI single to bring in Snyder and Morgan, and Elmore finished off the inning as she raced home on a wild pitch
  • Moravian added three more runs in the top of the second frame for a 9-0 edge. Gawrys singled and Marcie Silberman was hit by a pitch while Snyder singled to load the bases. Emily Silberman had an RBI groundout as Gawrys touched the plate while Elmore connected on an RBI sacrifice fly to score Marcie Silberman and Snyder raced home on the throw
  • The Blue & Grey tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. Sophomore right fielder Sarah DeStefano doubled to lead off the frame and Walter was hit by another pitch before Marcie Silberman ripped a two-RBI double down the left field line to score both DeStefano and Walter
  • The Diplomats got onto the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 11-1
  • Senior pitcher Madi Cunningham won her 13th game of the spring in the circle, allowing an unearned run on two hits and a walk to go along three strikeouts 

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Diplomats scored a run in the first inning of game two, and F&M added a run in the bottom of the third for a 2-0 edge
  • The Greyhounds pushed a run home in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit in half, and the Blue & Grey left the tying run at third base. Morgan reached on an error with two outs and race around the bases on an RBI double by Walter
  • Sophomore Natalie Otto allowed two runs on six hits and a walk to go with seven strikeouts in a complete game in the circle

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 13 hits in the doubleheader with Morgan going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs
  • Marcie Silberman had a pair of hits with two runs, five RBIs, a double and a home run, her 19th career homer
  • Gawrys added two hits and scored twice while DeStefano contributed two hits, a run and a double
  • Walter and Snyder each scored a pair of runs to go with one hit while Elmore recorded a hit, a run and three RBIs
  • Emily Silberman and sophomore third baseman Sydney Andrews both had a hit
