Moravian Tops NAIA No. 5 SCAD in Non-Conference Action

SAVANNAH, Ga. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team posted a 20-13 non-conference win over host and NAIA fifth-ranked Savannah College of Art & Design Thursday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The scored first with sophomore midfielder Alex Chernenson opening the scoring at the 13:08 mark of the first quarter. The Hounds added goals from senior midfielder Megan Donnelly, a second marker by Cherenson and a goal from sophomore midfielder Madi Dippel to take a 4-0 edge just over five minutes into action. SCAD would get on the scoreboard before senior attack Kendall Lomascola netted a goal for the Blue & Grey. The Bees added two more goals as the Greyhounds had a 5-3 advantage after 15 minutes of action
  • SCAD also tallied the first goal of the second quarter to get within one, but that would be as close as the Bees would get. Graduate student attack Brittany Bill scored twice for Moravian, and Hounds added another five goals later in the period with sophomore attack Jackie Salvatore scoring twice and Bill, Dippel and Lomascola each adding a goal as the Greyhounds headed into the intermission with a 12-6 lead
  • Donnelly and senior attack Devin King each scored twice in the third quarter, and the Blue & Grey also received goals from Bill, Lomascola, freshman midfielder Victoria Salica and freshman midfielder Giana Lotito to hold a 20-11 lead after 45 minutes of play
  • SCAD netted the only two goals scored in the fourth quarter 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had nine different players score with Bill leading the squad with four goals to go with a pair of assists and two ground balls. Donnelly added three goals, an assist, five draw controls and two ground balls while Lomascola had a hat trick, two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Salvatore contributed two goals and a team and career high six assists to go with three ground balls and three draw controls while King recorded two goals and two assists. Cherenson and Dippel each had two goals and an assist with Dippel adding eight draw controls while Cherenson had four draw controls
  • Lotito had a goal, an assist and two draw controls and Salica had a goal with four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Senior goalie Rylee Soltis made eight saves in 45 minutes of action while senior goalie Brelyn Friedman registered two saves in the final 15 minutes of action
  • The Hounds had a 35-34 edge in shots and a 19-18 advantage in ground balls, and the Blue & Grey were 11-for-14 on clearing attempts
