Moravian Tops Montclair State in Non-Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team topped visiting Montclair State University, 19-8, in non-conference action on John Makuvek Field Wednesday.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds opened the scoring just over three minutes into the contest when sophomore attack Jackie Salvatore found the net. Graduate student attack Brittany Bill made it 2-0 a minute later before the Red Hawks scored three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead. Moravian countered with three goals with one each from senior attack Kendall Lomascola, Bill and sophomore midfielder Alex Cherenson to hold a 5-3 edge after 15 minutes of play
  • Montclair State scored first in the second quarter while Bill added another tally for the Blue & Grey. After the Red Hawks made it a one-goal game again, Lomascola and Bill scored to push the Moravian advantage to 8-5. Montclair State netted another goal before senior midfielder Megan Donnelly scored twice to send Moravian to the intermission with a 10-6 advantage
  • The Hounds tallied six goals in the third quarter while holding the Red Hawks off the board to lead 16-6 after 45 minutes of action. Bill had three goals during the period while Cherenson, Donnelly and Salvatore each scored once
  • Moravian pushed its run to 10 consecutive goals as Bill and Salvatore scored in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, and Cherenson also had a marker in the final 15 minutes

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had five different players score with Bill netting a team and career high eight goals, tied for the fourth most goals in a match in program history, and she also had an assist for nine points
  • Salvatore had a hat trick to go with a team-high five assists, three ground balls and three draw controls while Cherenson and Donnelly both had hat tricks as well five draw controls with Donnelly also scooping up five ground balls
  • Lomascola recorded two goals while senior attack Devin King added a pair of assists
  • Senior goalie Rylie Soltis posted five saves in 45 minutes of action while senior goalie Brelyn Friedman had two saves in 15 minutes in goal
  • Junior defender Keara Reilly contributed five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while senior midfielder Emily Hoskin added three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Junior defender Salome Carr scooped up three ground balls while junior defender Alise Downey had a pair of ground balls
  • The Blue & Grey had a 36-21 advantage in shots, a 25-18 edge in ground balls and were 14-for-22 on clearing attempts
