Hounds Drop Regular Season Finale to No. 25 Scranton

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-7 decision to No. 25 The University of Scranton Saturday on John Makuvek Field to close out the 2024 regular season. 

How It Happened

  • The Royals opened the scoring a minute into the contest while the Hounds knotted the score at 1-1 when junior midfielder Alex Cherenson scored. Scranton took control of the match as the Royals scored eight of the next nine goals with Cherenson scoring in the middle of the run. Junior attack Jackie Salvatore fired in a long shot to beat the buzzer and make the score 9-3 for the Royals after 15 minutes of action
  • Scranton added another early goal in the second period before Cherenson scored with a player advantage. The Royals ran off three more goals, and Cherenson tallied again with 6:15 until the intermission. Scranton tacked on two more markers while Salvatore had another late goal to set the score at 15-6 for the Royals at the intermission
  • Junior midfielder Madi Dippel netted the first goal of the second half with just over four minutes to play in the third quarter. Scranton countered with a pair of goals to lead 17-7 after 45 minutes of play
  • The Royals scored the only four goals of the final period 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had three players score points with Cherenson netting four goals
  • Salvatore added two goals and two assists to tie Jillian Picciuto's single season scoring record of 104 points, and she had a pair of draw controls while Dippel netted one goal with four draw controls
  • Sophomore goalie Kayla Graef recorded nine saves with four ground balls
  • Senior defender Keara Reilly added three ground balls and a pair of caused turnover while freshman midfielder Bailey Leatherman added two draw controls
