Women's Soccer Lights up the Scoreboard in 8-1 Win over PSU-Altoona

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's soccer team defeated Penn State-Altoona, 8-1, Sunday afternoon on the HUB Quad. Sophomore midfielder Kirsten Schall led the way with a school record tying three assists.

The Greyhounds started the game with a quick goal just three minutes in when junior midfielder Sarah LaFerrara scored off a pass from classmate forward Caroline Clark. In the 29th minute Penn State-Altoona would put a goal in for Moravian to make the score 2-0. Just four minutes later freshman forward Carissa Mehaffey would score her first collegiate goal off a pass from Schall. Schall would get in on the action two minutes later by crossing the ball to freshman midfielder Brittany Nicoline, who netted her first collegiate goal.

The Greyhounds would take a 4-0 lead into halftime while getting 15 shots off compared to the Lions five shots. Moravian also held a 6-2 corner kick advantage in the first half.

Senior defender Eileen Black added to the Greyhounds lead just nine minutes into the second half with a goal off a corner kick from Schall. The Lions would notch their first goal of the game in the 71st minute when freshman midfielder Arianna Lantz would score of a rebound. Freshman midfielder Catherine Lamplugh answered back with her second goal of the young season in the 84th minute. Moravian would add two more goals from Clark and junior midfielder Taylor DiSora to go onto win 8-1.

Junior goalkeeper Genevieve Chaleff earned her first win of the season after recording two saves while not allowing a goal in the first half. Senior goalie Tori Korona made four saves in the second half while allowing one goal. Their counterpart, freshman Mackenzie Strubhar of Altoona made 15 saves in the contest.

The Greyhounds had a 10-3 corner kick advantage and a 32-12 edge in shots for the game.

Moravian returns to the pitch on Wednesday, September 5th as they play host to Ursinus College. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
