Women's Soccer Defeats Ursinus 2-1

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's soccer team defeated Ursinus College, 2-1, Thursday afternoon. Sophomore forward Kirsten Schall led the way with one goal.

Moravian came out of the gates firing by scoring a goal just a minute and half into the game. Freshman midfielder Catherine Lamplugh scored the goal off a cross from classmate forward Melissa Pavia. That goal was Lamplugh's third of the season. The two teams would remain at a dead lock for the rest of the half as the Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead into intermission.

Moravian would add to its lead in the second half with goal from Schall twenty minutes in. Schall scored on a breakaway after a pass from senior defender Eileen Black to put the Hounds up 2-0. The Bears would strike late in the match with a goal from senior midfielder Leah Shaw in the 88th minute. Shaw headed in the goal after a pass from junior defender MaryKate McCrea. Moravian would hold onto the 2-1 lead to win its second match of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Genevieve Chaleff would get the win after recording five saves while allowing just one goal in 90 minutes of work. Her counterpart, junior Kara DiJoseph made five saves while allowing two goals in 90 minutes.

The Greyhounds hit the road this weekend as they travel to the Penn State-Altoona Tournament. Moravian takes on Alvernia University on Saturday, September 8th at 3 p.m.
