Lamplugh's Goal Leads Moravian Past Neumann, 3-1

ASTON, Pa. --- Freshman midfielder Catherine Lamplugh snapped a 1-1 tie in the 71st minute to help lead the Moravian College women's soccer team to a 3-1 non-conference win at Neumann University Wednesday afternoon.

The Greyhounds, who improve to 4-2 on the season, took an early 1-0 lead in the third minute when sophomore midfielder Kirsten Schall scored her second goal of the season on a breakaway just 2:52 into the contest.  Moravian nearly extended its lead in the 29th minute when senior defender Eileen Black headed a corner kick by Schall just past the net.

The Knights would tie the contest at 1-1 just over five minutes into the second half when Megan Malstrom scored on a high shot from just outside the box in the 51st minute.  Moravian junior forward Caroline Clark had a pair of shots to give the Greyhounds the lead again with one in the 54th minute that was saved by Jaqueli McAllister, and the other a header wide of the net in the 62nd minute off of a Schall corner kick.

Lamplugh would put the Greyhounds back in front in the 71st minute when she took a pass from Schall and netted her team leading fourth goal of the season.  Schall picked up her team best fifth assist on the play.  Just 15 seconds after Lamplugh's goal, Moravian junior goalie Genevieve Chaleff would make her first save of the match to preserve the lead, and she added another save in the 80th minute.

The Greyhounds would get an insurance goal when freshman forward Melissa Pavia found the back of the net in the 88th minute for her first collegiate goal.

Moravian finished the match with a 13-7 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks in the match.  Chaleff finished with two saves while McAllister had one save.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 15th in a non-conference match at Misericordia University beginning at 5:00 p.m.
