Women's Soccer Falls to Elizabethtown, 2-1, in Double Overtime

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's soccer team fell to Elizabethtown College, 2-1, in double overtime Wednesday afternoon.

The Greyhounds and Blue Jays battled most of the first half without scoring a goal, until sophomore midfielder Ashley Landis netted the one for Elizabethtown in the 36th minute. The Blue Jays would take that 1-0 lead into halftime.

Moravian would get an opportunity at the equalizer in the 67th minutes when sophomore Kirsten Schall sent a corner kick to senior defender Eileen Black headed a shot just over the goal. The Greyhounds would get four more corners in the next three minutes. Schall then tied up the game with six minutes to go in the match, by netting it in the top right corner from the left side.

In the first overtime, the Blue Jays would have an opportunity to win in the final seconds with a shot from freshman forward Deanna Slater, but senior goalkeeper Tori Korona made a huge save to keep the contest tied at one.

Freshman midfielder Trisha Clark would net the game-winner two minutes into the second overtime period to lift the Blue Jays over Moravian, 2-1.

Senior goalkeeper Genevieve Chaleff started the game for Moravian and made four saves while allowing one goal in 59 minutes while Korona made four saves and allowed one goal in 42 minutes. Their counterpart senior Jess Manchak also had four saves while allowing one goal in 101 minutes of play.

Moravian held the corner kick advantage, 8-7, in the match.

The Greyhounds return to action Saturday, September 22nd as they open up the Landmark Conference scheduled versus The Catholic University of America. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
