Women's Soccer Drops Catholic, 1-0, in Double Overtime

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's soccer team defeated Landmark Conference foe The Catholic University of America 1-0 in double overtime. Senior defender Eileen Black scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute.

In the first half, the Greyhounds and Cardinals would battle to a 0-0 tie. Catholic held the shot advantage in the first half 8-7, and a slight edge in corner kicks at 4-3. Moravian did have an opportunity to take the lead in the 19th minute with back-to-back shots on goal from sophomore midfielder Kirsten Schall and junior forward Caroline Clark.

Freshman forward Catherine Lamplugh would have a good shot to take the lead for Moravian off a rebound in the second half, but freshman goalkeeper for Catholic made the save. The two teams would battle the rest of regulation to a tie, and head into overtime.

The Cardinals and Greyhounds would trade shot for shot in the first overtime to send the contest into overtime number two.

Lamplugh would have a chance to end it in the 103rd minute of the second overtime, but freshman goalkeeper Lexi Halperin made the save for Catholic. Four minutes later, in the 107th minute Schall took advantage of the Hounds eighth corner kick by crossing it to Black, who put it in the back of the net for the dramatic win.

Junior goalkeeper Genevieve Chaleff earned her fifth win of the season after posting 107 minute shutout while making six saves. Her counterpart Halperin made four save while allowing one goal.

Catholic held the shot advantage, 16-14, while both teams had eight corner kicks.

The Greyhounds return to action on Wednesday, September 26th as they host Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.) College. The contest is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
