Greyhounds Win in Shootout to Advance to Landmark Championship

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Moravian College women's soccer team defeated Drew University in the Landmark Conference Semifinals. The Greyhounds and Rangers battled to a 0-0 tie, but Moravian won 4-3 in a shootout.

Both teams battle to a draw in the first half as the Rangers held the shot advantage at 6-1 while the Greyhounds matched Drew with two corner kicks. Junior forward Caroline Kuras for the Rangers had a chance to take the lead in the 18th minute, but senior goalkeeper Tori Korona made the save. Senior defender Eileen Black sent her shot wide near the end of the half for the Greyhounds as the score remained tied at zero.

Moravian came out in the second half firing with back-to-back shots from sophomore midfielder Kirsten Schall and freshman forward Melissa Pavia, but neither made it to the back of the net. Schall and Pavia were at it again in the 70th minute with back-to-back shots, but unable to convert. Junior forward Caroline Clark almost won it in the 89th minute for the Greyhounds, but Kaikissoon made another good save as the contest would go into overtime.

After 90 minutes of play both teams tallied ten shots each while Moravian held a 4-2 corner kick advantage.

The Rangers recorded one shot in the first overtime as the match remained tied at zero.

Schall had a chance to win it in the 106th minute, but her shot was blocked in front to keep the tie. Korona then made a save in the 109th minute to keep the match tied at zero, and send the contest into a shootout.

After both overtimes, Drew held a 13-11 shot advantage while both teams each have four corner kicks.

Each team would have five attempts in the shootout to try and win the game. Drew made 3-of-5 while Moravian made 4-of-5 to advance to the Landmark Conference Championship game. Black, Schall junior midfielder Taylor DiSora and freshman defender Taylor Blake made the shootout goals for the Greyhounds.

Korona tallied two saves in 110 minutes while her counterpart, Jaikissoon also made two saves in the match.

The Greyhounds will take on The University of Scranton in the Landmark Conference Championship game tomorrow, November 4th. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
