Moravian Tops Alvernia to Complete Fall Season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis team defeated visiting Alvernia University, 7-2, in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at Howard Hoffman Courts as the Greyhounds completed the fall portion of their 2023-24 schedule with a 4-2 record.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds swept the doubles action to jump out to a 3-0 lead. freshman Sydney Shifman and senior Emily Masters earned the first point with an 8-1 victory at third doubles while sophomore Izzy Szmodis and senior Mara Stapleton posted an 8-6 triumph at second doubles. Freshmen Ali Bender and Leah Zolotareva completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at first doubles
  • The Golden Wolves took the first singles match to finish before Bender pushed the Hounds' edge to 4-1 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at third singles. Alvernia added another victory to make it 4-2 then Stapleton recorded a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at fifth singles to secure the win. Shifman registered a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth singles while senior Gabby Martin finished off the day with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at sixth singles
