BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis squad started the spring portion of the 2023-24 season with a 9-0 sweep of NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in Timothy Breidegam Fieldhouse Tuesday.
How It Happened
- The Hounds jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles action. The tandem of freshmen Ali Bender and Leah Zolotareva opened the scoring with an 8-1 victory at first doubles while senior Emily Masters and freshman Sydney Shifman posted an 8-2 win at third doubles to make it 2-0. Senior Mara Stapleton and sophomore Izzy Szmodis finished off the sweep with an 8-2 triumph at second doubles.
- Szmodiz began singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at second singles while Zolotareva had the winning team point at first singles as her 6-0, 6-3 triumph made the score 5-0. Shifman earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles while freshman Julia Bergman posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at sixth singles in the first match of her collegiate career. Stapleton recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win at fourth singles while senior Megan O'Brien finished the match with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 triumph at fifth singles
