Greyhounds Record Third Consecutive Shutout, Blanking Penn State Abington on Senior Day

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis squad recorded its third consecutive shutout of the spring season, blanking visiting Penn State Abington, 9-0, in non-conference action at Hoffman Courts Saturday as the Greyhounds celebrated Senior Day.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds began the contest with an 8-2 victory at third doubles from the tandem of seniors Gabby Martin and Megan O'Brien as the duo both recorded their first career doubles wins. Senior Emily Masters teamed with freshman Sydney Shifman for an 8-3 triumph at second doubles while the squad of senior Mara Stapleton and sophomore Izzy Szmodis posted an 8-6 win at first doubles for the 3-0 edge
  • Stapleton was first off the courts in singles with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at third singles while freshman Ali Bender registered the winning team point with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at second singles. Freshman Leah Zolotareva rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 win at first singles while Master had a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at fifth singles. Martin finished off a 6-3, 6-2 victory at fourth singles while O'Brien completed the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth singles
  • Prior to the match, the Greyhounds honored Martin, Masters, O'Brien and Stapleton for their careers with the program
