Volleyball Defeats Elizabethtown & Messiah for 5th Straight Victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College volleyball team swept its opponents in the Old Friends Cross Over Friday night. The Greyhounds defeated Elizabethtown College, 3-2, and Messiah College 3-0.

Moravian defeated the Blue Jays by scores of 19-25, 25-18, 25-11, 14-25, 15-13. Senior right-side hitter Samantha Savite led the way with 15 kills, one service ace and a block. Sophomore outside hitter Kelianne Comitalo tallied up 13 kills, three aces and six digs while freshman middle blocker Victoria Bobyak finished with ten kills.

Junior setter Kelly Brown tallied up 40 assists, ten digs, three aces and the game-winning kill while senior libero Jesse Krasley had 20 digs and three assists. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Hostetler put up 12 digs, eight kills, an ace and a block.

Elizabethtown was led by freshman outside hitter Juliana Mowen, who put up 11 kills while freshman right-side hitter Tori Brokaw had ten kills. Freshman setter Mary Clyne had 32 assists while junior defensive specialist Carolyn Lukiewski had 23 digs.

In the second match, Moravian defeated the Falcons in three sets by scores of 31-29, 25-19, 25-23. Savite and Hostetler both finished with 12 kills. Savite added three blocks while Hostetler had six digs. Brown tallied up 37 assists and nine digs while Krasley had 21 digs, three assists an ace and the game-winning kill.

Messiah was led by senior outside hitter Lauren Rees, who had 15 kills and ten digs. Junior setter Jessica Geib had 32 assists and nine digs while senior middle hitter Lindsay King finished with nine blocks and an ace.

With those two wins Moravian head coach Shelley Bauder now sits at 399 career victories.

Moravian travels to Haverford College for a non-conference match on Saturday, September 15th. The contest is scheduled for 2 p.m.
