Volleyball Splits at Landmark Conference Round Robin; Brown Gets 2,000 Career Assist

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College volleyball team split its games on Sunday afternoon. After falling to The Catholic University of America 3-1, the Greyhounds came back to defeated The University of Scranton in the second match of the day by a score of 3-2.

The Cardinals took the match of the day from the Greyhounds by scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-13. Junior setter Kelly Brown reached a milestone by getting her 2,000 career assist in the contest. She finished with 43 assists, 12 digs, three kills and two blocks. Senior setter Samantha Savite put up 18 kills and two blocks while junior libero Jesse Krasley tallied up 24 digs and six assists. Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Jennings had 12 kills while freshman middle blocker Victoria Bobyak had ten kills.

Catholic was led by senior outside hitter Claudia Jean, who had a game-high 20 kills to go with her 17 digs. Sophomore setter Mariana Cruz tallied up 39 assists and 16 digs while senior libero Kristina Pucell had 18 digs.

The second game of the day the Greyhounds defeated the Royals by set scores of 25-22, 20-25, 23-25, 26-24 and 15-6. With the win, Moravian posted its third straight 20-win season and the 12th 20-win season under 20th-year head coach Shelley Bauder.

Savite finished with ten kills and two aces while freshman outside hitter Lauren Hostetler tallied up 12 kills and nine digs. Brown finished with 37 assists and now has 2,042 career assists. Krasley added 27 digs and four assists while Jennings and Bobyak both had eight kills.

Scranton was led by senior outside hitter Jenell McFadden, who had 18 kills and 22 digs. Classmate setter Juli Woods put up 18 assists and 23 digs while sophomore outside hitter Julia Crilly had 24 digs, 11 kills and three aces.

The Greyhounds return to action on Thursday, October 18th as they travel to DeSales University. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
