Greyhounds Split Final Day of Regular Season

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the regular season at the Christopher Newport University Invitational Saturday, sweeping Lynchburg (Va.) College, 3-0, before falling to Averett (N.C.) University, 3-0.

In the opening match versus Lynchburg, the Greyhounds posted a 25-21, 26-24, 25-23 victory.  Freshman outside hitter Lauren Hostetler had 11 kills and nine digs while sophomore outside hitter Taylor Jennings and senior right side hitter Samantha Savite each had nine kills with Savite adding two blocks.  Junior setter Kelly Brown had 31 assists, 11 digs and a pair of service aces for the Greyhounds while senior libero Jesse Krasley added a match high 25 digs, and she was also named to the All-Tournament Team.  Junior middle blocker Brittany O'Hara had four kills and two blocks while freshman middle blocker Victoria Bobyak contributed four kills. 

Moravian would fall to Averett 25-13, 25-19, 25-16 to end the regular season with a 26-7 record.  In the match, Savite and Bobyak each had a team high five kills while Brown added four kills and 20 assists.  Hostetler had four kills and seven digs while Krasley contributed 24 digs.  Senior outside hitter JeanAnne Carey had three kills and three service aces.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Wednesday, October 31st when third seed Moravian hosts sixth seed Goucher College in a Landmark Conference Quarterfinal match in Johnston Hall starting at 7:00 p.m.  The Greyhounds are looking to tie the school record of 27 wins and advance to the Landmark Conference Semifinals on Saturday.
