Volleyball Posts Sweep of New Rochelle

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team moved into the championship bracket of the 12th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-19 victory over The College of New Rochelle during the final round of pool play Friday evening in Johnston Hall.

The Hounds fell behind 7-2 in the first set, and the score was tied at 15-15 when junior middle blocker Victoria Bobyak served up six straight points to give Moravian the lead for good. Bobyak finished the match with eight kills, five service aces and four digs. Moravian would control the final two sets, holding a lead the entire time.

Sophomore middle blocker Taylor Kornmann paced the Greyhounds with a match-high 12 kills to go with four blocks. Senior outside hitter Kelianne Comitalo and freshman outside hitter Mary Zacher each had six kills with Zacher adding 11 digs.

Freshman libero Jean Markovic led the Hounds with a match-best 17 digs while junior setter Megan Szkolnicki ran the offense with 30 assists to go along with three service aces and four digs. Sophomore opposite hitter Jaclyn Smith had three kills in the match while junior outside hitter Lauren Hostetler had four digs.

Moravian will play in the opening round of the championship bracket on Saturday, August 30 in Johnston Hall at 10:00 a.m. The Greyhounds' opponent has not been determined yet with one match still being played.
