Greyhounds Fall in Four Sets at DeSales to Begin 2021 Season

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad jumped out to a 1-0 lead before falling to host DeSales University, 19-25, 25-12, 25-13, 25-19, in non-conference action Wednesday evening at Billera Hall. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored the opening point of the season and led 5-2 in the opening set. Moravian extended the lead to 12-6 before the Bulldogs closed within three points at 13-10. The Hounds eventually pulled a way to earn a 25-19 victory in the first set
  • The second set saw DeSales score the first three points; however, Moravian tied the game three times, the final tie coming at 7-7. The Bulldogs broke the tie with four straight points and used a 14-1 run to win the set 25-12 and even the contest at 1-1
  • The Bulldogs once again scored the first three points in the third set and led the entire game for a 25-13 win and a 2-1 edge
  • The fourth set saw the Greyhounds take a 3-1 lead, and the Hounds were up 5-3 before DeSales rallied for a 7-6 advantage. Moravian knotted the set at 8-8 before a 9-1 run gave the Bulldogs a 17-9 lead on the way to a 25-19 set victory

Inside the Numbers

  • Senior middle blocker Renee Mapa led Moravian with seven kills to go with three blocks while senior outside hitter Sela Herber, freshman right side hitter Mackenzie Krasley and freshman middle blocker Jenna Deegan all had four kills with Herber adding nine digs and a pair of blocks
  • Freshman setter Emily Solomon led the Greyhounds offense with 20 assists to go with seven digs while junior libero Gabby Mancini had 11 digs and three service aces
  • Senior outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach contributed 11 digs and three kills while sophomore middle blocker Grace Silfani added a pair of kills and sophomore defensive specialist Allie Ludlow had three digs
