Volleyball Drops Five-Set Match on Final Day of 18th Greyhound Premiere

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team fell in their final game of the 18th Greyhound Premiere Invitational to Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-2, in Johnston Hall on Saturday morning.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds came out with four points in a row before the Leopards scored their first point. Wentworth would even the match at 10-10, but Moravian would continue to extend their lead, taking the first set 25-19.
  • Wentworth took a 7-0 lead to begin the second set and pushed their lead up to ten points, 14-4, before pulling away and downing the Greyhounds 25-18, tying the match at 1-1.
  • Moravian the Wentworth were tied at 3-3 before the Blue & Grey went on a run of scoring 10-straight points to take a 13-3 lead. Keeping distance between them in the set, Moravian claimed set three, 25-14 to take a 2-1 lead.
  • A closely played fourth set saw the Leopards and Greyhounds tied at 14-14, but Wentworth would win set four 25-19 and force a fifth set, tied at 2-2.
  • Wentworth took the first point before the Greyhounds scored the next three, but the Leopards took the lead for good. Trailing 11-6, Moravian scored three consecutive points to cut the deficit to just two, but Wentworth would finish the set and defeat the Greyhounds 15-10.

Inside the Numbers

  • Senior outside hitters Kirah Dreisbach and Sela Herber led Moravian with 12 kills each. Dreisbach, who was also named to the Greyhound Premiere All-Tournament Team, also added 13 digs and had a pair of service aces while Herber had 10 digs and three block assists.
  • Freshman middle blocker Jenna Deegan contributed 7 kills, five block assists and a solo block.
  • Senior middle blocker Renee Mapa contributed six kills, a block solo, block assist, and a dig.
  • Freshman setter Emily Solomon ended the evening with 35 assists, six digs, two kills and two service aces.
