Greyhounds Suffer Five-Set Conference Loss to Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad dropped a close five-set contest, 3-2, to Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference on Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds and Blue Jays battled back and forth to open the contest, until Moravian tied the set at 6-6 with a service ace from junior setter Natalia Matos, where she served the next eight points to give the Blue and Grey a six-point lead. Elizabethtown fought back to tie the set at 16-16, but the Greyhounds pulled ahead to a three-point lead at 24-21 before the Blue Jays claimed set one, 28-26
  • Moravian scored the first four points of the set as senior outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach earned a kill for the first point and then served the next three. The Greyhounds extended their lead to six points at 10-4, then increased it to a seven-point advantage at 20-13. The Blue Jays put together a run and cut the lead to 23-20 before the Blue and Grey tied the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 set-two victory
  • The third set started with both squads exchanging points as Elizabethtown pulled ahead with a 9-5 lead before the Greyhounds cut their deficit to two points, 10-8. The Blue Jays extended their lead to 19-10 and would eventually take a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-15 triumph
  • Junior libero Gabby Mancini got to the service line with a 3-2 lead and served the Blue and Grey to a 7-2 lead. Moravian possessed an 11-8 advantage when the Blue Jays rallied for seven straight points to take a 15-11 lead. Moravian continued to fight and would tie the contest at 16-16 before taking a 20-17 lead. Elizabethtown did not go down quietly, finding a way to tie the set at 21-21, but the Greyhounds pulled it out and earned the 25-23 victory to force a fifth set
  • Moravian would take a 2-1 lead, then tie the score at 6-6 before the Blue Jays extended their lead, ultimately defeated the Greyhounds 15-7 and handed Moravian a 3-2 loss

Inside the Numbers

  • Senior outside hitter Sela Herber led the Greyhounds with 13 kills followed by Dreisbach who downed 12 attacks for kills. Herber finished with 22 digs and an assist while Dreisbach ended the night with 13 digs, a block and three assists
  • Freshman right side hitter Makenzie Krasley concluded the night with nine kills while freshmen middle blockers Kerry Dillon and Jenna Deegan each recorded eight kills. Krasley made three blocks and four digs while Dillion led with two solo blocks and three block assists, five digs and an assist and Deegan added one dig and a block while
  • Matos paced the Greyhounds with 46 assists, 29 digs and an assist as Mancini led Moravian with 32 digs while contributing two assists and two services aces
