Greyhounds Win Pair of Contests at Gwynedd Mercy Tri-Match

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball swept a pair of non-conference contests in a tri-match at Gwynedd Mercy University as the Greyhounds defeated the host Griffins and Ramapo College of New Jersey Saturday. 

How It Happened – Gwynedd Mercy

  • The Greyhounds took an early 3-1 lead in the opening set and slowly stretch the gap to take the game 25-15
  • The Griffins jumped out to a 4-1 edge to start the second set before sophomore defensive specialist Kat DeYesso served the Blue and Grey to a 6-5 lead. Gwynedd Mercy came back to lead 19-10 before the serving tandem of junior setter Natalia Matos and senior outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach pulled Moravian within two points at 20-18. Sophomore outside hitter Allie Ludlow served the final four points as the Greyhounds came back to win the set 25-22
  • Moravian had an early 5-3 lead in the third set and completed the sweep with a 25-21 win

How It Happened – Ramapo

  • The Roadrunners opened the first set with a 3-0 lead before the Greyhounds scored the next five points with senior outside hitter Sela Herber serving. Ramapo tied the set again at 8-8 before the Blue and Grey pulled away for a 25-20 win
  • The second set was all Moravian with Dreisbach serving eight straight points including three service aces for a 14-4 lead on the way to a 25-9 victory and a 2-0 advantage
  • Herber started the second set with six straight service points after Ramapo had a 1-0 edge, and the Hounds won the set 25-13 to take the contest 3-0

Inside the Numbers

  • Dreisbach led Moravian with 26 kills, 28 digs and six service aces on the afternoon while senior middle blocker Renee Mapa returned from injury to record 19 kills and four blocks
  • Freshman middle blocker Jenna Deegan added 14 kills while Herber had 12 kills, 22 digs and three service aces
  • Matos ran the offense with 65 assists in the two contests to go with 12 digs, four kills, three service aces and two blocks while junior libero Gabby Mancini contributed 19 digs and a pair of service aces. DeYesso added 11 digs
