READING, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team rallied after dropping the first set to post a 3-1 non-conference victory at Penn State Berks Thursday evening for the Hounds' third consecutive victory.
How It Happened
- The Nittany Lions took a quick 2-0 lead in the opening set before the Greyhounds came back for a 3-2 edge. The game continued to go back-and-forth with neither squad leading by more than two points. Penn State Berks was up 24-22 when Moravian tied the set. The Nittany Lions responded with two straight points for a 26-24 set victory
- The Blue and Grey took an early 5-0 lead in the second set with junior libero Gabby Mancini serving with three service aces. Moravian stretched the edge to 12-3 and led 15-5 before the Nittany Lions started to close the game. The Hounds would end up taking the set 25-17 to tie the contest at 1-1
- Penn State Berks scored the first two points of the third set before Mancini served the Greyhounds back into the lead at 4-2. Moravian had a slim 11-10 lead when Mancini went to the service line again and four points later, the Hounds were up 15-10. Moravian earned a 25-21 victory in the set to take a 2-1 lead
- The fourth set saw the Nittany Lions leading early at 6-4 before the Greyhounds started to pull away and had a 16-12 edge. Mancini would put the set away, serving the final nine points with four more service aces for a 25-12 win to clinch the match
Inside the Numbers
- Mancini finished the night with 11 service aces, the most in school history in a four-set match and the second most overall in a contest behind the three-set mark of 18 set by Mary Kate Cordisco versus Washington (Md.) College in 2003, and Mancini also had 15 digs and two assists
- Senior middle blocker Renee Mapa recorded a team-high 11 kills to go with four blocks while senior outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach posted 10 kills and 19 digs
- Senior outside hitter Sela Herber contributed nine kills, a team-high 20 digs, two service aces and a pair of blocks while freshman right side hitter Makenzie Krasley had three kills and a pair of digs and freshman middle blocker Jenna Deegan added two kills and two blocks
- Junior setter Natalia Matospaced the Moravian offense with 31 assists to go with 13 digs and a pair of kills while sophomore defensive specialist Kat DeYesso added 10 digs and sophomore defensive specialist Emily Szy had two service aces
- Moravian recorded a 17 service aces, the most for the Greyhounds since another 17-service ace performance against Rosemont College on September 20, 2019 at the Neumann University Knights Invitational
