Greyhounds End 2021 Campaign with Pair of Landmark Conference Matches

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad closed out its 2021 season with a pair of Landmark Conference contests in a quad match hosted by Drew University as the Greyhounds fell to Goucher College, 3-2, and The Catholic University of America, 3-0.

How It Happened - Goucher

  • The opening set saw the Gophers pull out to an early lead with the Greyhounds coming back each time. The Blue and Grey eventually took a 19-18 lead before Goucher scored seven of the last eight points to take the set 25-20
  • Behind the serving of sophomore defensive specialist Kat DeYesso and junior libero Gabby Mancini, Moravian had a 14-5 lead in the second set. However, the Gophers would respond and eventually captured the game 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead
  • The third set had Goucher out to a 3-0 advantage before sophomore defensive specialist Allie Ludlow served the Hounds to a 5-3 edge. The set remained close, and the Gophers led 22-20 before junior setter Natalia Matos served five straight points to give Moravian a 25-22 set win
  • Ludlow put the Blue and Grey up early on the service line, and Mancini served six straight points to end the fourth set as the Greyhounds evening the contest at 2-2 with a 25-18 set victory
  • Goucher scored the first five points in the fifth set and would take the game 15-7 to win the match 

How It Happened - Catholic

  • The Cardinals took an early 5-1 lead in the opening set, and Catholic would win the game 25-16 to begin the contest
  • Freshman middle blocker Jenna Deegan served Moravian to a 5-4 edge in the second set, and Mancini helped the Blue and Grey earn five straight points for a 13-9 lead. However, Catholic moved ahead and had a 22-18 edge before sophomore defensive specialist Emily Szy pulled the Hounds into a tie at 22-22. The Cardinals answered and won the set 25-23 for a 2-0 edge
  • Moravian would find itself down 13-6 in the third set before the serving of Szy and Matos made it a 15-14 match. Catholic pushed the edge back to 23-16 before senior outside hitter Sela Herber served the Greyhounds within a point at 23-22. However, the Cardinals would once again win the set 25-23 to complete the match

Inside the Numbers

  • Senior outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach led Moravian with 32 kills and 39 digs in the two contests to finish her career with 656 kills and 1,043 digs to go with 128 service aces
  • Herber added 19 kills and 20 digs to finish her Moravian career with 554 kills and 567 digs while senior middle blocker Renee Mapa added 20 kills and six blocks as she completed her career with 505 kills and 167 blocks
  • Matos had 76 assists, 30 digs, five service aces and three kills on the day while Deegan added eight kills and three digs
  • Mancini contributed 38 digs, six assists and three service aces in the two matches while Szy had 26 digs and three service aces and Ludlow added 16 digs
  • Freshman middle blocker Kerry Dillon had four kills and a pair of blocks while freshman right side hitter Makenzie Krasley had seven kills and DeYesso added three digs
