Hounds Win Two Matches in Opening Day of 19th Greyhound Premiere

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad won a pair of matches in the opening day of the 19th Greyhound Premiere Invitational in Johnston Hall Friday evening with a 3-1 victory over Olivet (Mich.) College and a 3-0 sweep of SUNY Cobleskill.

How It Happened – Olivet Match

  • The Hounds took the opener 24-26, 25-20, 25-13, 25-22 for the first win of the year
  • Moravian fell behind 3-0 in the opening set before rallying to take a 10-8 lead. Neither squad had more than a three-point lead the rest of the game before the Comets scored the final two points for the victory
  • The Blue and Grey had a quick 4-1 edge in the second set before racing out to a 15-6 advantage. Moravian pushed the lead to 21-8 in the set before Olivet rallied and cut the lead to 24-20 when the Hounds won the set to even the match
  • The third set started the same with the Greyhounds taking a 5-1 edge and pushing ahead for a 25-13 victory
  • The final set would be close early with Olivet leading 6-4. The Hounds slowly pulled away for a 16-12 lead only to see the Comets come back to take a 22-20 edge. Moravian scored the final five points to earn the victory
  • Sophomore right side hitter Mackenzie Krasley led Moravian with 13 kills to go with five digs while junior outside hitter Hannah Hayes added 10 kills, five digs and two blocks. Junior middle blocker Autumn Marrero contributed eight kills and four blocks in her first match for the Blue and Grey while sophomore middle blocker Jenna Deegan had seven kills and 10 digs
  • Junior right side hitter Sophie Bauer contributed six kills while junior middle blocker Grace Silfani had five kills for Moravian
  • Senior setter Natalia Matos ran the Greyhounds offense with 35 assists to go with three kills and three digs while senior libero Gabby Mancini had team highs of 16 digs and five service aces to go with three assists. Freshman defensive specialist Tamara Vasquez contributed 11 digs and a pair of service aces in her collegiate debut while junior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso had ten digs and three assists

How It Happened – SUNY Cobleskill Match

  • The Hounds swept the Fighting Tigers 25-13, 25-15, 25-22 to complete the opening night sweep
  • Moravian controlled the opening set with an early 9-2 edge on the way to the victory, and the Blue and Grey led 5-0 to start the second set enroute to the win
  • The third set was back-and-forth early before the Greyhounds pulled out to a 14-9 edge. SUNY Cobleskill closed within a point at 22-21 before Moravian scored the final three points to complete the contest
  • Bauer led the Hounds in the match with seven kills to go with two digs while Krasley contributed six kills and a pair of digs. Silfani had five kills while Deegan added four kills and four digs
  • Matos paced the offense with 17 assists, 12 digs and two kills while Mancini added 10 digs and three assists and Vasquez added five digs
