Moravian Sweeps Gwynedd Mercy In Non-Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad posted a 3-0 sweep of visiting Gwynedd Mercy University in non-conference action in Johnston Hall Friday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The Hounds opened up a 7-0 lead to begin the first set, and the closest the opening set would be a six-point edge from Moravian as the Blue & Grey posted a 25-7 set win
  • The Greyhounds scored the first two points of the second game, but the set went back-and-forth with the score tied at 15-15 before Moravian moved a by three points 18-15 on the way to a 25-20 set victory
  • The Blue & Grey once again took an early lead in the fourth set with a 5-0 advantage, and the Hounds went on to post a 25-12 win to complete the sweep

Inside the Numbers

  • Sophomore outside hitter Jenna Deegan led the Greyhounds with 13 kills to go with four digs and a pair of blocks while junior right side hitter Sophie Bauer contributed nine kills and three digs
  • Sophomore right side hitter Makenzie Krasley recorded eight kills for the Blue & Grey while freshman outside hitter Caroline Melillo had two kills, two blocks and a pair of service aces and junior middle blocker Grace Silfani added two kills and two blocks
  • Senior setter Natalia Matos paced the Hounds with 24 assists to go with five digs and a pair of blocks while senior libero Gabby Mancini recorded team-highs of six service aces and nine digs to go with two assists
  • Freshman defensive specialist Tamara Vasquez had seven digs and two service aces while freshman setter Ally Plitnick contributed five digs and four assists. Junior defensive specialist Allie Ludlow had eight digs while junior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso recorded two digs
  • Freshman middle blocker Davana Elysee had the first kill and block of her career while junior defensive specialist Emily Szy added three digs and a service ace and sophomore setter Emily Solomon had an assist and a block
