Hounds Earn Five-Set Victory at Lycoming in Landmark Conference Action

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team earned a 3-2, five-set victory over host Lycoming College Saturday afternoon as the Greyhounds picked up their first Landmark Conference win of the season. 

How It Happened

  • The first set was back-and-forth early with neither squad leading by more than three points until the Warriors opened a 13-8 edge. The Hounds responded and knotted the set at 15-15, but Lycoming went back in front 19-17. Moravian then ran off seven straight points for a 24-19 lead before taking the set 25-20 for a 1-0 lead
  • The second game had the same feel with the Warriors eventually holding a 17-12 edge before a run from the Blue & Grey tied the set at 17-17. This time it was Lycoming that would go on to take the lead and capture the set 25-20 to even the contest at 1-1
  • The teams battled through the third set with the Hounds leading 13-8 before Lycoming went up 24-20. Moravian ran off four straight points to tie the game at 24-24, and the Blue & Grey added another three points for a 27-25 set win and a 2-1 edge overall
  • The fourth game saw the squads tied at 12-12 when the Warriors scored seven of the next nine points. Moravian got back within a point at 23-22 before Lycoming finished off the set with a 25-22 victory to knot the contest again at 2-2
  • The Greyhounds raced out to a 6-2 lead in the deciding set, and Moravian let 12-5 before finishing off a 15-10 win to capture the match

Inside the Numbers

  • Freshman middle blocker Payton Reuber led the Hounds with 12 kills to go with seven blocks while freshman outside hitter Gabbie Reigner contributed seven kills, 16 digs, two blocks and a pair of assists
  • Senior middle blocker Autumn Marrero recorded six kills and a block while freshman outside hitter Kelly Tempalsky had five kills, three digs and two service aces
  • Sophomore setter Ally Plitnick paced the Moravian offense with 35 assists to go with 12 digs, five blocks, five kills and a pair of service aces while freshman defensive specialist Sam Love added 25 digs, two service aces and two assists
  • Senior right side hitter Sophie Bauer registered four kills while junior right side hitter Makenzie Krasley had four kills and two assist
  • Junior outside hitter Jenna Deegan posted two kills and three digs while senior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso added five digs and two service aces
  • Senior defensive specialist Emily Szy recorded five digs and senior defensive specialist Allie Ludlow had a pair of digs
