Greyhounds' Rally Comes Up Short in Five-Set Loss to Drew

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team fell behind 2-0 before rallying, and the Greyhounds were a point from winning a five-set Landmark Conference match with visiting Drew University before the Rangers countered to earn the 3-2 victory Friday night in Johnston Hall.

How It Happened

  • Drew jumped out to a 6-2 edge in the opening set, and the Rangers led 9-3 before a 7-1 run from the Greyhounds knotted the game at 10-10. Drew countered with six of the next seven points to build a 16-11 advantage, and the Rangers took the opening set 25-19 for a 1-0 lead
  • The Rangers had another early edge in the second game at 5-1. The Blue & Grey made it close once again, cutting the deficit to 10-8 before Drew pushed ahead for a 25-16 second win to go up 2-0
  • It was the Hounds that got the early lead in the third set at 5-2, and Moravian slowly stretched the advantage to win the set 25-14 and cut the overall score to 2-1
  • Drew jumped out to a 4-1 advantage to start the fourth set, and the Rangers led 9-7 when the Greyhounds countered with five straight points to move ahead 12-9. Drew answered with a run of its own to retake a 17-13 lead. The Blue & Grey came back to tie the set at 20-20 before winning the game 25-22 to even the match score at 2-2
  • Moravian had a quick 3-1 edge in the deciding fifth set, and after the Rangers tied the game at 3-3, the Hounds moved out to a 6-3 lead. The Greyhounds pushed that edge out to 13-9 before Drew closed within a point at 13-12. Moravian scored to make it 14-12 then the Rangers scored three straight points to take a 15-14 edge. The Hounds answered with a point to tie the set at 15-15; however, Drew scored the final two points to clinch the match

Inside the Numbers

  • Freshman middle blocker Payton Reuber led the Greyhounds with 14 kills while junior outside hitter Jenna Deegan contributed 12 kills, three digs and three blocks
  • Senior middle blocker Autumn Marrero recorded nine kills, seven digs and four blocks while junior right side hitter Makenzie Krasley had six kills and a pair of digs
  • Sophomore setter Ally Plitnick ran the Moravian offense with 40 assists to go with 22 digs and four kills while freshman defensive specialist Sam Love registered a career-high 32 digs to go with five assists
  • Senior defensive specialist Allie Ludlow contributed 23 digs and a pair of assists while senior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso had four service aces and six digs
  • Freshman outside hitter Gabbie Reigner posted nine digs, three blocks and two kills while freshman outside hitter Kelly Tempalsky added two kills and three digs
  • Senior right side hitter Sophie Bauer had four digs and two kills while senior defensive specialist Emily Szy recorded eight digs and two assists
