Greyhounds Drop Landmark Conference Match at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision in Landmark Conference action at The Catholic University of America Friday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored the first point of the night and held a 13-10 advantage in the opening set. The Cardinals ran off four straight points before opening a two-point lead at 19-17. Moravian countered to tie the game at 21-21 when Catholic scored for the final five points to take the opening set, 25-22
  • The Cardinals had an early 4-2 edge in the second game, but the Hounds rallied back and led 9-6. Catholic went on an 11-1 run to open a 17-10 advantage, and the Cardinals won the set 25-18 for a 2-0 lead
  • The third set went back-and-forth early with neither squad leading by more than two points. The Blue & Grey had a 10-9 edge when Catholic scored eight straight points to move ahead 17-10. The Cardinals had a 19-11 advantage before an 8-1 run from the Hounds cut the deficit to a point at 20-19. Catholic moved out to a 23-20 lead when the Greyhounds scored four straight points to retake a 24-23 edge. Moravian eventually scored the final three points of the set for a 27-25 game victory and to cut the Cardinals' advantage to 2-1
  • Catholic opened an early 5-2 edge in the fourth set. The Blue & Grey got within a point at 12-11 before the Cardinals stretched the lead again. Moravian came back to knot the score at 19-19. Catholic answered by scoring six of the final seven points for a 25-20 victory to capture the match 

Inside the Numbers

  • Junior outside hitter Jenna Deegan and junior right side hitter Makenzie Krasley both recorded 10 kills for the Greyhounds with Deegan adding three digs and Krasley contributing a pair of digs
  • Freshman outside hitter Gabbie Reigner recorded nine kills and 15 digs while freshman middle blocker Payton Reuber posted seven kills and three blocks
  • Senior middle blocker Autumn Marrero contributed five kills, five blocks and three digs while freshman outside hitter Kelly Tempalsky had four kills and three digs and sophomore outside hitter Caroline Melillo made two kills
  • Sophomore setter Ally Plitnick ran the Greyhounds' offense with 39 assists to go with 22 digs and three service aces while freshman libero Sam Love registered 22 digs and three assists
  • Senior defensive specialist Allie Ludlow contributed 18 digs and a pair of service aces while senior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso added nine digs and senior defensive specialist Emily Szy had six digs
