Nine Baseball Players Among National Leaders in DIII Statistics

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Nine members of the Moravian College baseball team are ranked nationally in the first NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2013 season, and the team is ranked in seven statistical categories as well.

Sophomore outfielder Matt Hanson is ranked in six categories. Hanson is tied for 13th in doubles per game at 0.7, tied for 20th in triples with two, tied for 27th in doubles with seven, tied for 36th in slugging percentage at .718, 72nd in batting average at .436 and tied for 99th in triples per game at 0.2.

Sophomore shortstop Colin Case is tied for 68th in the country in hit by pitch with four, and he is tied for 79th in runs per game with 1.1, tied for 81st in hit by pitch per game with 0.4 and tied for 92nd in home runs with one.

Sophomore third baseman Ryan Luke is tied for sixth in the nation with three sacrifice flies, and he is tied for tenth with three triples, tied for 41st in triples per game at 0.3 and tied for  57th in RBIs with 1.2 per contest.

Freshman pitcher Anthony Zaloga is 43rd in the country in hits allowed per nine innings at 5.11, and he is tied for 55th in walks allowed per nine innings at 1.46, tied for 70th in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 5.5 and 75th in WHIP at 0.73.

Junior pitcher Robert Solano is 24th in walks allowed at 0.98 per nine innings, and he is tied for 77th in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 5.0. Junior pitcher Tommy Mariano is tied for 29th in walks allowed per nine innings at 1.08 while junior outfielder Joseph Connell is tied for 92nd with one triple at the plate.

Freshman first baseman/pitcher Charles Savite is tied for 67th in the nation with one save while freshman catcher Mike Roethke is tied for 87th in toughest to strikeout with just one strikeout every 20 plate appearances.

As a team, the Greyhounds are 11th in the nation in walks allowed per nine innings at 1.88, tied for 15th in triples with six, 17th in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 3.44, tied for 34th in triples per gam3 at 0.6, tied for 39th with seven sacrifice flies, tied for 47th in stolen bases with 21 and tied for 47th in doubles per game with 2.3.

Moravian, which is 6-5 on the season, is slated to begin its 2013 Landmark Conference season with a three-game series at The Catholic University of America this weekend. The Greyhounds and the Cardinals are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16th beginning at 12:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C. with a single game to follow on Sunday also at 12:00 p.m.
