Moravian Men Finish Fourth at 2023 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships as King Wins Two Event Titles

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's track & field squad finished fourth of seven squads at the 2023 Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Susquehanna University Saturday as the Greyhounds scored 110 points in the 17 competed events. 

Event Winners

  • Graduate student Tim King captured the first championship of the meet, winning the 35-pound weight throw with an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference qualifying toss of 16.04 meters (52-7) to earn 10 points
  • King also scored 10 points for a first place and AARTFC qualifying toss of 14.02 meters (46-0) to win the shot put
  • The Greyhounds' 4,000-meter distance medley relay squad of juniors Casey Frank and Paul Petre and freshmen Bryan Kerchner and Kevin Hess ran a winning time of 10:49.60 to capture 10 points. Frank was on the winning DMR team for the second straight season 

Top 8 Scoring Results

  • Sophomore Nathan Hajel was the runner-up in the 5,000-meter run in the first event on the track with an AARTFC qualifying time of 15:25.37 to score eight points. Senior Shane Houghton took third in an AARTFC qualifying time of 15:28.36 for six points while junior Josh Mangini finished sixth in 15:52.94 for three points
  • Houghton placed second in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 9:02.64 to earn eight points while Frank finished fourth in 9:06.37 for five points, Hajel took seventh in a time of 9:12.43 for two points and Mangini was eighth in 9:13.47 for one point
  • The Hounds 4x200-meter relay squad of juniors Matt Shea and Jared Santos and sophomores Owen Sabastro and Trevor Gray scored eight points for a runner-up showing in a time of 1:33.86
  • Gray was also the runner-up in the 60-meter dash with an AARTFC qualifying time of 7.06 in the finals for eight points after an AARTFC qualifying mark of 6.99 seconds. Santos placed fifth in 7.22 seconds to earn four points while Sabastro was seventh in 7.26 seconds for two points and Shea took eighth in a time of 7.27 seconds to earn one point
  • Sophomore Jake Farrell finished fourth in the mile run with a PR time of 4:25.90 to earn five points
  • Junior Brendon Ward placed fifth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:01.73 to score four points while sophomore Geoffrey Kleinberg was one spot back in 2:02.91 to pick up three points
  • Moravian's 4x400-meter relay squad of Shea, Ward, Kleinberg and Hess placed fourth in a time of 3:39.88 to score five points in the final event on the track
  • Junior Dan McNicholas placed fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 13.80 meters (45-3) to pick up four points while senior Adam Gildea finished eighth at PR mark of 12.72 meters (41-8) for one point
  • Junior Jeremy Goll added two points in the shot put with a seventh-place toss of 11.90 meters (39-0.5) 

Top 10 Finishes & PR Results

  • Junior Derek Mason finished ninth in the weight throw at 12.68 meters (41-7)
  • Senior Liam Duffy took ninth in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 16:19.63
  • Freshman Josh Swain was tenth in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries in 9.18 seconds, tying his PR in the event while sophomore Jason Gartner ran a PR time of 9.67 seconds
  • Freshman Jacob Fenstermaker finished ninth in the 60-meter dash preliminaries in 7.31 seconds
