2014 Off to a Great Start - March 27, 2013

The team spent January and February training with Coach Brown and Coach Read to prepare for our non-traditional season.  The hard work has certainly paid off.  The girls are strong and fit and roaring to go.  We started our spring season in mid-March, and we are already about half way through the season. We have only eight practices remaining to prepare for our spring tournament at Muhlenberg on April 12th. We jumped right into things with a scrimmage against our Alumni this past Saturday. It was a perfect day for soccer, with temperatures reaching into the 60s! The alumni almost pulled off a come from behind upset, but freshman Emeley Reyes stole the show with a blast from 25 yrds out to win the game 3-2! Melissa Walko, another freshman, scored the first two goals. Melissa showed off her strengths with a well struck ball from the top of the 18, and a breakaway goal that she created by busting through the back line and finishing with composure.  We just had our first 6:30 a.m. practice of the season and I thought it was our best yet. This group is certainly driven and they understand how important this “off” season is in achieving our long term goals.  I love the energy this team is bringing with them to practice every day, and I feel really good about where we are headed.  Go Hounds!

Exciting 2012 Season - January 17, 2013

It was an exciting season for the 2012 Moravian Women’s Soccer team. The team finished the regular season with an overall record of 10-7-1 and a Landmark Conference record of 4-2. After advancing to the Landmark Conference championship match on a thrilling win over Drew University in penalty kicks, the Lady Hounds fell to the University of Scranton with just five minutes remaining in the match. The Greyhounds were then selected to compete in the ECAC South Championships. Moravian took an early lead in the quarter-final match but eventually feel short to Lebanon Valley College in what was arguably the most intense battle of the season.

The post season has been equally exciting. The Landmark Conference has recognized Moravian’s outstanding season by selecting several individuals for three out of the four major conference awards. The team also earned the Landmark Conference Sportsmanship award. All of these awards were voted on by the head coaches of the Landmark Conference member institutions.

“We are extremely proud of our team. We are a very young group, and we were able to accomplish things that many did not think was possible. Playing for a conference championship is a great achievement, especially for a team made up of mostly of newcomers. Core Returns with Great Expectations - February 1, 2012

With the core of the team returning in 2012, the future is bright.  Our two rising seniors, Eileen Black and Tori Korona, are determined to leave their mark on this program and want nothing more than to go out with a bang! 

Eileen has been a three time all-conference selection and was the team’s leading goal scorer for the second straight season.  She is among the region’s best defenders and has the potential to earn All-America honors next fall.  Tori is coming off a strong finish in 2011.  She was named Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her end of the season performance in net and helped us clinch a spot in the conference tournament. 

 Rising junior Genevieve Chaleff started in net 13 times and earned her first career shutout in our season opening win over regional power Swarthmore.  Rising junior Caroline Clark bounced back from an ACL tear in 2010 and brought size, strength, and speed to our attack.  Rising juniors Taylor DiSora and Rachael Hurley were a force for us at midfield and almost never came off the field.  Both could be described as fearless ball winners and clever play makers and are among the best midfielders in the conference. 

Our rising sophomores are eager to build on their outstanding start.  Locals Quanie Lightner (Saucon Valley) and Alyssa Notte (Easton) had an immediate impact. Quanie scored two game winning goals and added creativity and speed to our attack.  Alyssa started in the back for us and courageously defended some of the best attacking players in the region, earning the respect of her teammates and opponents alike.  Kirsten Schall started in 11 games this season, tallying one assist. Even after missing half of the season due to an injury, Kirsten was named to the 2011 Landmark Conference 2nd Team.  Dana Pennock was sidelined this fall with an ACL tear. We are confident that Dana will prove to be among the best defenders in the conference and we are anxiously awaiting her return this spring. 

This is a talented young group and they are disciplined, dedicated, and determined.  We have our sights set on a conference championship, and with this group the sky is the limit!
