Moravian Posts Third Straight Sweep in Landmark Conference Action with Win at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis squad earned its third straight 9-0 sweep in Landmark Conference action, defeating host Elizabethtown College Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds began the match with a 2-0 lead as the Blue Jays only had five available players giving the Hounds wins at third doubles and sixth singles before the contest started
  • Moravian would post 8-2 victories in the two doubles matches played with seniors Maddie Figiel and Cristina Merone finishing first at second doubles followed by the tandem of senior Julianne Cassady and freshman Izzy Szmodis at first doubles
  • Th Blue & Grey also won the five singles matches played with Cassady earning the winning fifth team point after a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at first singles. Figiel posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at second singles while Merone captured a 6-2, 6-3 win at third singles. Rounding out the match were junior Mara Stapleton winning 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) at fourth singles and sophomore Rose Lombardo posting a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at fifth singles
  • The Greyhounds have won half of their 14 victories this season by 9-0 scores
