MAHWAH, N.J. --- The Moravian University men's soccer squad dropped its first match of the 2021 season, falling at Ramapo College of New Jersey, 4-1, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds would get the first shot of the match on goal as sophomore forward Reed Sturza hit the keeper just four minutes into the match but it would be the Roadrunners that struck first with a goal in the 18th minute
  • The teams would head to the intermission with Ramapo still holding its 1-0 edge while the Greyhounds had an 8-7 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes of action
  • The Roadrunners scored in the 60th and 70th minutes to push the lead to 3-0
  • The Hounds broke onto the scoreboard with just 1:43 remaining as freshman forward Matt Guerrero scored his first career goal
  • Ramapo finished off the scoring with a penalty kick with just over 30 seconds to play

Inside the Numbers

  • Senior goalie Mason LeSage made his third career start and recorded three saves in 77 minutes of action while sophomore keeper Andrew Remias played the final 13 minutes
  • The Greyhounds finished the contest with a 17-13 edge in shots led by senior midfielder Alec Aloia, who had three shots and sophomore midfielder Daniel Babbert, who put both of his shot attempts on goal.

Quotable

  • We had some early opportunities that, if we would have finished, could have changed the course of the game," commented Head Coach Bob Wilkinson. "Unfortunately, Ramapo got the first goal and it left us chasing. Ramapo put together a good second half that left the game out of reach. Congratulations to Freshmen Matt Guerrero who scored his first collegiate goal."
