Novotni & Marion Capture Event Titles at Kutztown Last Chance Qualifier

KUTZTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's indoor track & field squad won a pair of events and recorded seven personal best results at the Kutztown University Last Chance Qualifier Friday evening.

Junior Natalie Novotni opened the meet for the Greyhounds by winning the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:44.04 while sophomore Emma Marion captured first in the mile run with a time of 5:45.10 in her first time competing in the event. Freshman Rachel Byrne trailed Marion with a third-place finish in the mile in a PR of 5:51.91 while junior Alison Nicolosi was fifth in a PR of 6:00.42. Freshman Peyton Herbst had a PR of 12:34.99 behind Novotni, finishing in 10thin the 3K while senior Marlee Hornbaker was 12th in 13:55.85. Sophomore Santina Burak was third in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:33.84.

Byrne also placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.35, leading six Hounds in the event with freshman Emily Wells in ninth in 1:05.07, freshman Shannon Connelly in tenth at 1:05.29, sophomore Hannah Flaven at 14th in a time of 1:06.67, senior Shayne McNally in 15th in 1:07.77 and Nicolosi in 17th in 1:14.86. Wells also took 15th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.93 seconds while junior Emily Renner was 17th in 30.12 seconds, Flaven was 22nd in 31.15 seconds and McNally finished 23rd in 31.56 seconds. Renner took ninth in the 55-meter dash preliminaries in 8.11 seconds while junior Cat Cole was 13th in 8.81 seconds. Junior Jenevieve Eberly was seventh in the 55-meter hurdle preliminaries with a PR time of 9.60 seconds while freshman Elizabeth DeMassa took eighth in 9.69 seconds, Cole placed tenth in 9.84 seconds and Connelly finished 11th om 10.15 seconds.

Eberly recorded a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a PR leap of 5.14 meters (16-10.5) while DeMassa was 11th at 4.66 meters (15-3.5), junior Tyleen Lopez finished 13th at 4.63 meters (15-2.25), freshman Haylee Saylor took 16th at 4.30 meters (14-1.25) and junior Martha Thorpe placed 19th at 4.12 meters (13-6.25). Thorpe would finish third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.82 meters (35-6) while Eberly took fourth at 10.17 meters (33-4.5), DeMassa placed fifth with a PR of 10.15 meters (33-3.75) and Saylor was sixth at 9.75 meters (32-0).

In the throws, senior Vanessa Blose finished seventh in the shot put with a toss of 9.87 meters (32-4.75) while senior Hailee Yoder was 14th with a distance of 9.22 meters (30-3). Freshman Maddie Wickel was 11th in the weight throw with a PR of 10.96 meters (35-11.5).

The Hounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, February 29 when the squad heads to Susquehanna University for the 2020 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships as Moravian looks to capture the 12th Landmark titles in the 13th year of the conference.
