Top 10 Exciting Games of 2014-15 - Best of the Rest - What Missed the Top 10

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Before Moravian College unveils its top highlight from the 2014-15 athletic campaign in the Top 10 Exciting Games– here is a list of other games that didn't make the top 10. The number one highlight will be announced on Wednesday, July 22.

 

Men's Soccer Overtime Win at USMMA

The Greyhounds used a goal in the 50th minute by freshman defender Ryan Bartel for a 1-0 win over The Catholic University of America on September 27. Bartel headed in a set piece on a direct kick by sophomore defender Ian Larimer for the only goal of the match, and it was Bartel's first career goal. Junior keeper Brian Boland had six saves in the contest for his third shutout of the season.

Field Hockey Tops Drew in Overtime on Senior Day

Moravian finished out its 2014 season on November 1 with a 3-2 overtime win versus Drew University in Landmark Conference action on Rocco Calvo Field for Senior Day. After falling behind early, senior midfielder Valerie Male scored in the seventh minute to tie the contest. Ten minutes into the second half, sophomore forward Erin Tiwold pushed the Greyhounds in front 2-1 off an assist from senior midfielder Catherine Duffin, her school record 22nd career assist. After the Rangers tied the match in the 62nd minute, it would be Tiwold scoring 3:15 into overtime off of a pass from junior forward Kelly O'Donnell for the win.

Men's Soccer Defeats Catholic

The Hounds rallied from a 1-0 deficit to top the Mariners, 2-1 in overtime, on the road on October 8. Bartel found a loose ball in the box after a direct kick and put it into the next with just 44 seconds left in regulation. Larimer would win the contest for Moravian 6:57 into overtime when he took a shot from 15 yards out and put it into the top right corner of the net for the win. Boland added eight saves in the win that evened the squad's Landmark Conference mark at 2-2.

Women's Basketball Tops Marywood in Overtime in ECAC South Quarterfinals

Moravian was making its 14th straight postseason appearance when the Greyhounds hosted Marywood University in Johnston Hall on March 4 in the quarterfinals of the 2015 ECAC Division III South Quarterfinals. The Pacers held a five-point lead at halftime but a second half surge by the Blue & Grey sent the game to overtime tied at 53-53. Moravian fell behind by four points in the extra session but scored 11 of the last 13 points for the 64-59 win. Senior forward Alexis Wright paced the Greyhounds with a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds in her final home game while junior forward Alesha Marcks added 11 points and 10 boards. Junior guard Emily MacDonnell and Samantha Caligiuri both scored 10 points for the Hounds.

Baseball Walks Off in 10th versus Elizabethtown

Two days after a walk off win for Head Coach Paul Engelhardt's 200th win (No. 2 on the Top 10 countdown), the Greyhounds posted another walk off win in the opening game of a Landmark Conference series and doubleheader versus Elizabethtown College at Gillespie Field on March 29. Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and tied the contest at 2-2 in the sixth inning. In the bottom of the tenth, senior shortstop Colin Case and senior right fielder Matt Hanson drew walks with one out before junior first baseman Charles Savite connected on an RBI single through the left side with an 0-1 count for the win. The victory was part of five game winning streak for Moravian as well as a sweep of Elizabethtown that gave the squad the tiebreaker to host the Blue Jays later in the spring for the Landmark Conference Semifinal series.
