Hounds Defeat Drew in OT on Senior Day

Bethlehem, Pa.--- Senior midfielder Valerie Male and sophomore forward Erin Tiwold lead the Moravian College field hockey team to victory on Senior Day over Landmark Conference opponent Drew University on Saturday at Rocco Calvo Field.

"It's a great way to end the season," commented Head Field Hockey Coach Amy Endler. "After the last couple of games we've had it's tremendous to get an overtime win over a good Drew team. I'm so happy for the seniors, ending on a positive note and really working hard today.

The Greyhounds would counter-attack a minute after the Rangers scored to even things at one a piece. Senior midfielder Catherine Duffin received the insert off a penalty corner to find teammate Male who blasted it past the goal keeper in the sixth minute of the match.

The Hounds took the lead 2-1 in the 55th minute, Duffin would work her way down field and put a lead pass to the right of the goal to find a wide open Tiwold to put the ball in the back of the cage. Duffin moved into a tie for first in school history with her 21st career assist on the play, and she completed her career second in points with 85. Drew would even things at two goals in the 61st minute.

Moravian had three back-to-back penalty corners in the final minutes of regulation, desperately looking to take the win Duffin would get a shot off after the third penalty corner but it was saved by the Drew goalkeeper. The Blue and Grey were awarded another penalty corner in the 69th minute but would ultimately be cleared sending the game into overtime.

The Hounds carried the offensive momentum from regulation and only took three minutes to claim the win. Junior midfielder Kelly O'Donnell made her way past a defender and played a ball across the goal to find Tiwold open again, who tapped in the goal for the 3-2 victory to end the season with an 8-11 record overall.

Junior goalkeeper Megan Kanyuk made one save and a total of 91 saves this season.
