Field Hockey Drops Road Match at No. 14 Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian College field hockey team battled No. 14 The Catholic University of America in Landmark Conference action Saturday evening in the national's capital, falling to the Cardinals, 4-1.

Catholic started on the offense but senior defender Bryn Tafuri kept the match scoreless in the fifth minute with her first defensive save of the season. However, the Cardinals would score goals in the sixth and eighth minutes to take a 2-0 lead.

The Greyhounds would cut the deficit in half when sophomore midfielder/forward Christina Duddy sent a pass toward the right corner of the cage and found sophomore forward Kyla Rodrigues there to knock the pass in for her second goal of the season in the 28th minute.

Early in the second half, sophomore goalie Megan Kanyuk made one of her six saves in the match, and sophomore defender Shauna Poling followed it up with her team-leading fifth defensive save to keep the Hounds within a goal.

The Cardinals would score in the 42nd and 45th minutes but would get no more as senior defender Emily Marley made two defensive saves late in the match.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, October 8 when the squad welcomes Neumann University to Rocco Calvo Field for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match.
