Hamel, Holly & Rodrigues Named NFHCA Scholars of Distinction

GLEN ALLEN, Va. --- Senior Taylor Holly, junior Rebecca Hamel and sophomore Kyla Rodrigues from the Moravian College field hockey team have been named to the 2014 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Scholars of Distinction.

The trio is part of the 138 NCAA Division III student-athletes that earned the award, which is given to student-athletes that have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year. A total of seven Landmark Conference student-athletes earned the Scholars of Distinction honors.

The NFHCA added the Scholars of Distinction to its postseason awards in 2012-13, and Moravian has had nine student-athletes honored including Hamel for the third straight year while Holly and Rodrigues picked up the honor for a second consecutive year.

"I am very proud of Taylor, Rebecca, and Kyla for representing Moravian Field Hockey on the NFHCA Scholars of Distinction team," stated Head Coach Amy Endler. "They all embody the true meaning of student-athlete. They work hard in and out of the classroom and are excellent role models for all of their teammates."

Moravian was 8-10 this past fall. Hamel scored four goals and added an assist while starting all 18 matches this season as a midfielder. Rodrigues added two goals and two assists from her forward position as she saw action in all 18 contests while Holly missed the first 12 contests of the year with an injury before returning to the line-up in October and making one start at forward.
