Field Hockey Defeats Immaculata University 2-1

Bethlehem, Pa---The Moravian College field hockey team earned a 2-1 victory over Immaculata University in the squads home opener at Betty Prince Field by taking an early lead in the first half and with quick counters allowed them to secure the win 2-1.

Junior forward Kelly O'Donnell earned her second goal of the season netting the first goal of the game for the Hounds. She received the ball from Rebecca Hamel with 7:30 on the clock and blasted it passed the goalie. Moravian would take the 1-0 lead into the half.

Moravian kept possession most of the game despite the heat and Coach Amy Endler commented, "We played very strong right from the start putting them on their heels right away. We dominated the first half except the few minutes when the heat may have gotten to us, which it took a toll on both team but I think we overcame it."

Sophomore defender Shauna Poling came up big for the Blue and Grey earning a defensive safe in the first half which kept the Greyhounds in the lead heading to half.

"Shauna made a huge play for us being in the exact right place at the right time for us to keep the lead in the first half. Her play the whole game was outstanding," said Endler

O'Donnell would notch her second goal of the day giving Moravian the lead 2-1. The goal gave senior defender Bryn Tafuri her first assist of the season.

"It was good to see us recover after a goal and not get down on ourselves. We were able to fire right back and score to regain the lead. Kelly did some really nice things out there today and scoring those two goals is what we have been looking for," said Endler.

The Moravian College field hockey team will look to extend their winning streak Thursday, September 11 at Arcadia University.
