Hounds Rally in OT at USMMA for Second Conference Win

The Moravian College men's soccer team traveled to United States Merchant Marine Academy looking for their first road and second Landmark Conference win. The Greyhounds would find both of those in a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory.

"It was a great effort by the guys, they played a strong 90 minutes. Although we waited till late in the game to score and took it into overtime, it paid off," commented Head Coach Todd Ervin "We didn't waste any time, putting a goal in the sixth minute of overtime. They carried the energy from the end of the second half and capitalized."

The Mariners got out to a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute that carried them to half time. With time winding down, the Hounds would have a set play in what looked like their last opportunity to score. With the ball knocking around inside the box, freshman defender Ryan Bartel would find the back of the net with 44seconds left in the match, forcing the game into overtime.

The Blue and Grey only had five shots but that's all it took. In the sixth minute of overtime, sophomore defender Ian Larimer sealed the deal. He would drill a shot from 15 yards out finding nothing but the right upper corner of the net.

With junior goalkeeper Brian Boland making eight saves and an outstanding showing from a strong backline, the Greyhounds would hold the Mariners to one goal. The Hounds now improve to 2-2 in Landmark action.

The Greyhounds are on the road again on Saturday, October 8 at 1:00 p.m. in another Landmark Conference battle against Juniata College.
